My program at Apple Tree is based on my beliefs and knowledge about children, including:

1. Young children are concrete  learners.

2. Children learn through multi-sensory involvement.

3. Young children learn by experimenting and exploring.

4. Young children develop in a sequential manner.

5. Young children learn by interacting and observing

                            adults and peers.

                                               6. Young children are empowered by solving problems and

                                                                           making decisions.

                                               7. Young childrens' self-esteem in strengthened when

                                                                         they experience success.

                                               8. Different children learn in different ways and in different time

                                                                       frames...at their own pace.

                                               9. Young children learn through repetition and imitation.

                                               10. Young children learn through play and hands-on experiences.

I believe children learn best in an environment which promotes learning. Some of the features of a good learning environment are:

*A child-centered program (where the needs of the child are the focus, not the needs of the adult)

*A setting which involves parents whenever and however possible

*A variety of activities available at all times.

*Fun, creative and age-appropriate materials.

* Learning experiences in : art, sensory, dramatic play, music, language and science

* A program which balances all of this in group and individual learning, active and quiet play, free-choice and teacher-directed activities both inside and outside

* All activities should have a purpose to foster and  promote growth in each child in the areas of social, intellectual, emotional and/or physical development.

What does all of this mean exactly?

It means that my program at Apple Tree will offer your child a full day of varied activities designed to help her learn while having fun!  My philosophy builds on the very idea that while your child is creating, climbing, singing, listening, feeling, touching, testing, exploring, sharing, laughing and looking-she is learning everything she needs to know for kindergarten readiness. She is developing and growing in a well-rounded and healthy manner.

To learn exactly how your child can do all of this in my program, check out the page on program goals!
